EDUCATION
Education is a basic human right and a significant factor in the development of individuals, communities, and countries. It brings solution to various problems that hamper the growth and development of the modern society and promotes perennial human values of love, service and fraternity. Education is integral to the mission of the Church to proclaim the Good News. First and foremost every Catholic educational institution is a place to encounter the living God who in Jesus Christ reveals his transforming love and truth. This relationship elicits a desire to grow in the knowledge and understanding of Christ and his teaching.
The Vincentian Congregation is committed to the cause of evangelization of the people especially the poor. Besides its various ministries such as preaching the Word of God, Charitable, Social and Pastoral activities, it also lends an effective hand in the field of education for wellbeing of the people. Catholic education is not merely moral or spiritual education; rather it is education of the whole man, developing his intellectual, social, cultural and physical faculty. As catholic Christian educators we challenge and strive to empower all students to become increasingly aware of their basic self worth, making every effort to transform them into persons of character, competence, conscience, compassion, commitment, leadership and commitment to God and to the country. It shapes the thoughts and character of people enabling them to attain a well balanced character and a truly successful and fruitful life. The Statutes of the Vincentian Congregation in its article 93 states the following Mission and Vision of the Congregation in the field of education: “Through educational works, we are fulfilling the duty of forming worthy children for the church and responsible citizens for the state. Therefore, our educational institutions must distinguish themselves by their spiritual, intellectual and cultural excellence”.
As we know, today many Corporates come to the field of educational institutions. Most of these corporate institutions are not imparting any appropriate value systems to our children. Moreover, it is not possible for children from poor or even average family situation to take admission in such institutions. Hence we need to have quality educational institutions affordable for the ordinary people. The educational institutions run by the Congregation maintain a Vincentian touch, making them affordable for the poor and ordinary people. Through this, we are fulfilling the duty of forming worthy children for the church and responsible citizens for the country. Therefore, our educational institutions distinguish themselves by their spiritual, intellectual and cultural excellence. The Congregation is running many schools and educational institutions all over India both in rural as well as urban areas and one in Africa. These institutions give special attention to the character formation of the new generation, by inculcating in them the spirit of love, service and fraternity. Our schools and institutions have earned a good reputation for formation and excellence. Students from these institutions have come off very successfully.
The Marymatha Province of the Vincentian Congregation has altogether around 28 educational Institutions in which 13 are schools and 15 highereducational institutions such as Colleges, Music Academy, Computer Academy, Bible and Spirituality Institute and Media Institutes. The St. Joseph Province runs 13 institutions, including two Higher Secondary Schools under Kerala State syllabus, three Higher Secondary Schools under CBSC pattern, two High Schools and one Lower Primary School under Tamil Nadu State syllabus. There are also 3 formal technical educational centers. The St. Thomas Province is running seven English Medium schools and four Hindi Medium Schools under De Paul literacy mission in U.P.
