AWARENESS CAMPAIGN FOR DIFFERENTLY ABLED CHILDREN THROUGH GRASSROOTS COMICS AT VSS ANGAMALY

Vincentian Service Society Centre for Rural Development organized an awareness campaign on 11.11.2017 for differently abled children through grassroots comics with the support of Catholic Health Association of India (CHAI). The concept of grassroots comic in the field of disability rehabilitation will put forward the idea of securing participation of children and adolescents in local grassroots level campaigning. Children and adolescents with disabilities will get opportunities to exhibit their capabilities through stories before their own communities. The life experiences and difficulties of the children will be reflected through the grassroots stories. The programme was launched in Asha Bhavan-Vocational Training Centre for Physically Handicapped, Annammanada. The name of the camp was ‘To think and to laugh’. The camp was inaugurated by Rev. Sr. Rose Ann, Director of the School and Rev. Fr. Varghese Perinchery VC, Executive secretary of VSS presided over the function. The camp was led by Mr. Dalin Dias, and almost 27 differently abled children attend the camp. They got an opportunity to sketch a mixture of comics in relation with their disability.
