In 1990, Rev. Bp. Antony Fernades, Bishop of Bareilly sent his Diocesan procurator and social director Rev. Fr. Francis to express his desire to invite the Vincentians to his Diocese. His Excellency also sent a letter to the Provincial Superior speaking about the same. In response to the letter, Rev. Fr. Varghese Naikamparambil VC and Rev.Fr. Joseph Keezhedam VC visited his Lordship on 6 September 1990. On 29 July 1991 very Rev. Fr. Joseph Edattu, the then Provincial Superior, of St Thomas Province and Rev. Fr. Varghese Naikamparambil visited his Excellency and discussed on the possibilities of taking up evangelization work in the diocese of Bareilly. After the sufficient discussion and negotiation about the terms and conditions, both the Bishop and Provincial signed the agreement on 1 January 1992. With the advice and blessing of Bishop they moved to Aonla for the evangelization work. Rev. Fr. Thomas Alackakunnel and Dn. Joby Kallungal visited Aonla in search of a rented house and they brought a small house. Dn. Joby Kallungal and Bro. Benny Elamplakkattu, regent at Chandausi were sent to Aonla to do the necessary arrangement for the blessing and inauguration. Vincentian house was solemnly blessed and inaugurated by Most. Rev. Antony Fernades, Bishop of Bareilly.

In the beginning, Frs. Varghese Naikamparambil and Thomas Alackakunnel were regularly visiting IFFCO Township on Sundays and advent weeks for prayer. Meanwhile 4 acres of land was purchased by Bishop for our mission and donated to our Province. Fr. Joby Kallungal was appointed as the first Parish Priest of St Vincent’s Catholic Church, Aonla on 25 October 1992. Bro. Joseph Puthiyedath was appointed as regent. They stayed in the rented house until the construction of the Ashram as well as Church was accomplished.

In 2005, under the direction of Rev Fr. Francis Kolencherry, a boy’s boarding home was constructed for the education of poor catholic boys. Due to the unavailability of enough catholic boys in boarding, it was later changed into a hostel for boys irrespective of religion. As there were not enough boys in the boarding, the continuation of boarding home was in question for quite some time. At that time the Province was in need of a Novitiate house and Minor Seminary in Meerganj was changed into the Novitiate House in 2016 and Minor Seminary in Meerganj was brought into the De Paul boys’ home in Aonla. At present Vincentian Ashram in Aonla has a Parish Church consists of a few Catholic families and several Christu-Bhaktas and First year Minor Seminary for North-Indian students. Near to our Ashram, Holy Family sisters have got a convent, one health center and one School up to twelve.
