Description

HISTORY AND PRESENT ACTIVITIES

The Vincentian house in Maddington in the Arch Diocese of Perth was canonically erected in the year 2009. It was a further development in the first ever Vincentian mission in Australia based in Shenton Park in Perth Arch Diocese. The Arch Diocese entrusted the Congregation with the Pastoral responsibility of the Maddington Parish along with permission to conduct renewal retreats and other ministries specific to the Charism of the Vincentian Congregation. Fr. Varghese Parackal moved from Shenton Park to Maddington to assume charge of the Parish and to conduct retreats and was later joined by Fr. Sabu Kalappurackal who became the first Superior of the house. Around this time a ministry was started for the Syro-Malabar faithful which grew and became St. Josephs Syro-Malabar Parish today after the Eparchy was eructed for the Syro Malabar faithful in Melbourne.

Apart from the pastoral responsibilities of the Maddington Parish, our priests are constantly engaged in the ministry of the Word which includes weekend evening retreats, monthly renewal retreats, live in retreats and other retreats and special programme throughout the year. In the year 2014 a land of 27 Acres was purchased by the Congregation with the intention of establishing a full-fledged retreat centre where construction has begun recently. Today the Vincentian Community in Maddington is served by Fr. Varghese Parackal as Superior and Director of the retreat Centre and Fr. Rojan Poonattu as Parish Priest and Finance officer.  One more priest is expected to join the community soon who will assume charge of the Syro-Malabar Parish here.
