Description

HISTORY AND PRESENT ACTIVITIES

Vincentian House Kothamangalam, is situated near the Kothamangalam – Bhuthathankettu road, just 2 km away from St. George’s Cathedral, Kothamangalam.  It is the Prayer House of the St. Joseph’s Province of the Vincentian Congregation, which is called Patmos Prarthanabhavan (Prayer House). This House is situated in 4.66 acres of land and 3 acres of which is rubber plantation. It is situated in the ecclesiastical boundary of Kothamangalam Diocese. The heavenly patron of this House is St. Thomas the Apostle. We bought this property on August 25, 1988.  The Vincentian family got formed here in March 19, 1989 in the already existing building, and it was opened and blessed by Mar George Punnakottil, the Bishop of Kothamangalam. Rev. Fr. Mathew Arackathottam was its first Superior. He worked tirelessly for the improvement of the House and the property. Meanwhile he constructed a beautiful Church adjacent to the House. It was blessed on March 25, 1994 by Mar George Punnakottil. Later on the present House was built by Rev. Fr. Augustine Naduvilpurayidathil and was blessed on January 30, 1997 by Very Rev. Fr. Antony Plackal, the then Superior General. After him Rev. Frs. Francis Pullattu, Mathew Paliyakunnel, Paul Kariamadam and Micaheal Panachickal served as Superiors respectively. At present Rev. Fr. Kalapura Jose serves as the Superior.

A beautiful Grotto of Our Lady of the Miraculous Medal was blessed and inaugurated on November 20, 2004 by Mar Mathew Vaniakizhakkel, the Bishop of Satna. This may be the first Grotto of the Miraculous Medal in the Syro Malabar Church. Many People come here and pray to our Lady of the Miraculous Medal and receive numerous favours and blessings. Every Wednesday Novena of Our Lady of the Miraculous Medal is conducted in the Grotto. This House is near to the tourist centres of Bhuthathankettu and Thattekkadu.

Rev. Fathers of the House do pastoral work for the people in and around Kothamangalam. Every Sunday Holy Mass is celebrated at 10 am for children around here who go for catechism in the nearby primary school conducted by CMC sisters.  Our priests help the CMC sisters of the nearby Sanjo Prayer House by celebrating Holy Mass and giving Homily especially for the retreatants. Some priests come here for prayer and rest, and renew themselves spiritually and physically.  We also conduct social work here. A credit union of the Diocese of Kothamangalam is functioning well in this House.  Rev. Fathers here give help and direction to this endeavour.
