HISTORY AND PRESENT ACTIVITIES
The Lord has raised Vincentian Congregation to the status of having our own seminary in the beautiful land of Uganda, especially in the Diocese of Masaka. The dream of having a house of formation in the soil of Africa came true on the 13th of June, 2015, when Rt. Rev. Bishop John Baptist Kaggwa, Bishop of Masaka Diocese blessed the Vincentian House at Mitemula and Rev. Fr. Paul Puthuva, the Provincial Superior inaugurated the minor seminary in the presence of many priests, religious and lay faithful.
On 1st July 2013, the Sacred Heart Region bought 140 acres of land at Mitemula, in the Diocese of Masaka, to start an agriculture farm. Later on, our superiors decided to establish the minor seminary here. The foundation stone for the minor seminary was laid by Rev. Fr. Biju Valliparambil, the Regional Superior, on 15th March 2014 and Rev. Fr. Francis Kochuparambil was appointed in-charge of the construction. The construction works began on 10th June 2014.
Rev. Fr. Jinu Puthussery was the first Rector and superior and Fr. Francis Kochuparambil was the finance officer. They did a very firm foundation for St.Vincent’s Seminary, Metemula especially with regard to the construction of this seminary and the development of De Paul farm. The history has to remember them and their hard work, commitment and dynamic initiatives to actualize the wonderful dream of a minor seminary for the Vincentian Congregation in East Africa. Water is still a big problem in this vast land. We put up an irrigation project for more than 10,000 coffees planted and a good number of fruit trees which are already coming up in the farm.
