HISTORY AND PRESENT ACTIVITIES
De Paul Boys’ Home Kayunga is the first Vincentian charitable institution in East Africa. It is a Home for the needy in the African soil, in the Masaka Diocese in Uganda. Construction of the home was funded by Mr. Michael and Mrs. Mary O’Callaghan from Ireland. Mary was coordinator of the retreats of Rev. Fr. Antony Vadakkemury in Ireland. On October16, 2010 Rev. Fr. George Pottayil, the then Assistant Provincial Superior laid the foundation stone for the Boys’ Home and Rev. Fr. Francis Kochuparambil was appointed in charge of construction. On 14th January 2012, De Paul Boys’ Home, Kayunga, was Blessed by Rt. Rev. John Baptist Kaggwa, the Bishop of Masaka Diocese and was inaugurated by Very Rev. Fr. Paul Puthuva, the Provincial Superior. Rev. Fr. Francis Kochuparambil was appointed the first Director of De Paul Boys’ Home. He started to live there with 22 boys on 26th January 2012. On 5th May 2012, Rev. Fr. Paul Puthuva, the Provincial Superior, erected a Vincentian House here with his decree. Patron of the house is St. Vincent De Paul and Rev. Fr. Francis Kochuparambil VC is its first Superior. The Boys’ Home premises is a plot of 13 acres of land.
