Description

HISTORY AND PRESENT ACTIVITIES

Velugode parish, in the diocese of Kurnool, was formed with the out-stations of Polur and Nandyal in the year 1981. We took up Velugode Parish along with Atmakur in June 1988. The new parish church and presbytery were built in 1996 by Fr. John Karukapilly. In 1997, the Sisters of Adorers of Precious Blood established a convent in the parish for doing pastoral work and women development apostolate.

As an extension of the ministry of Vincentian Fathers in Velugode, an elementary English Medium School was started in 1997. But due to lack of sufficient number of children, it was closed after one year. Again we opened a new school here in 2010. Fr. Saji Avangattu was dare enough to take over the new responsibility and began his work with the blessing of the temporary building by Rev. Fr. Francis Naduviladethu, the then Regional Superior of Good Shepherd Region. Construction of the new school building was started in the year 2011 and the main block is over by 2013.

A minor seminary was started in Velugode, mainly for the aspirants of Andhra Pradesh in 1998. Fr. Joseph Pallikkamadam was the first rector. But in 2011, minor seminary was shifted from Velugode to Chinna Avuttappilly.
