HISTORY AND PRESENT ACTIVITIES
It was a long cherished dream of Rt. Rev. John Mulagada, the bishop of Eluru, to have a college in his diocese for the education of the poor Catholics of rural parishes and of the seminarians of the diocese. Regarding this he made several requests to our superiors. The first stage of the fulfillment of his dream occurred in 1991 when the Congregation accepted the property in Pinakadimi offered by the diocese for the purpose and Rev. Fr. Paul Kidangel was given the charge to clean up the site.
De Paul Junior College was started in the year of 1991 by Fr. Vincent Rathapilly with 14 students on its roll. The college is affiliated to the Board of Intermediate, Andhra Paradesh. In the beginning it was functioning at Ashoka Nagar in a diocesan building Ranimeda. Hostel facility was given to the students from the beginning of the college itself and it was in the Bishop’s House campus. Fr. Joseph Parekkattil was the first hostel warden. Fr. Sebastian Kandanamkuzhiyil was appointed to look after the construction of the college and hostel buildings in our property. He was staying in the site itself. College had a steady and gradual development. Today, the college is offering intermediate course in five streams (MPC, BIPC, CEC, MEC) having around 400 students. The strength of De Paul Hostel is around 200 students.
The Vincentian community came into being on 14th August 1994, with Fr. Vincent Rathappillly as the superior. In 1998, a minor seminary was established here with the purpose of facilitating our seminarians to do their intermediate courses. Fr. Vincent Rathappilly was the first Rector.
The Degree College was opened in the year 1997. It is affiliated to Adi Kavi Nannayya University. At present the Degree College offers courses like B.Com (general and computer), B.Sc (chemistry and computer) and has around 250 students. In the year 2002 college started PG course, M. Sc (organic chemistry, physics, analytical chemistry) affiliated to Andhra University Vizag. In the year 2009, the college started a wing for management studies (MBA) recognized by AICTE affiliated to Andhra University Vizag.
