On our desire to start a Vincentian ministry in Vijayawada area, the Mission Superior of Andhra Mission, Rev. Fr. Paul Puthuva approached the Bishop of Vijayawada and Bishop Marampudy Joji, entrusted us the Edara parish and the institution for the handicapped in August, 1999.  Rev. Fr. Mathew Kunnel was the first parish priest. Edara was a station of Nehrupeta Parish. The centre in Edara for handicapped and mentally retard children, was looked after by two lay sisters named Chinnu and Celin. There were 45 children at that time. The centre had no sufficient buildings and equipments. The new Navajeevan Home for the children was built under the direction and care of Fr. Bernard Kallidukkanaickal and was blessed on January 23, 2006 by Bishop Prakash Mallavarapu in the presence of Very Rev. Fr. Varghese Puthusery, the Superior General and Very Rev. Fr. James Kallumkal, the Provincial Superior.

When the lay sisters left the institution and went to Bangalore to start a new centre, we invited DSS Sisters to work with us.  They accepted the invitation and arrived in the year 2003. After five years of service they left because of the shortage of members. Now the Navajeevan Home is changed into a hostel for poor girls, since there are no handicapped children. The Little Sisters of Christ helps us to look after the girls here. They started their ministry here on 2009. In Edara parish we have Edara Sahayamatha Mount with a grotto and every year people celebrate Edara Sahayamatha feast solemnly with 9 days rosary, novena and Holy Mass with homily on the Mount. The feast is celebrated every year on January 24.
