Description

HISTORY AND PRESENT ACTIVITIES

This is the first Vincentian mission in Kohima Diocese, Nagaland. Rev. Fr. John Puthiyedam reached Kohima-Nagaland on 25th June 2012. Bishop asked him to stay at Mount Tabor Retreat Centre run by Sisters. Fr. Sony started conducting programs there and at the same time he was searching for a plot of land to build our own centre. The plots offered by the diocese were not found suitable. The search continued without a result for two years. After two years the Diocese of Kohima offered us 14 acres of land for a centre. It is in a village called Zhadima, 25 km away from the town, Kohima. There are 17 Tribes in the State of Nagaland. Our centre is situated in the area of Angami Tribe.

On 6th February 2014 we started the land development works. On 3rd April Bishop James Thoppil, the Bishop of the Diocese of Kohima, blessed the foundation stone in the presence of Very Rev. Fr. Paul Puthuva, the Provincial Superior and Rev.Fr. Francis Naduviledath, the Assistant Provincial Superior. Soon after that the construction works were started. On 16th April 2014 Fr. Sony started his stay in Zhadima village and began to look after the construction works of the retreat centre. The centre was blessed on 29th May 2015.

There are around 500 Catholic faithful in Zhadima village. Zhadima was a substation of the Cathedral Church of Kohima. On 8th February 2015 Bishop James Thoppil erected Sts. Peter & Paul Catholic Church, Zhadima, as an independent Centre in Kohima Diocese and Fr. Sony is the first Priest-in-charge of the Centre.

We are also entrusted with a school having till 5th Standard and 95 students, which was started by the catholic community there. As per the agreement signed in November 2014 we have taken the charge of the school. But there is no proper building and administration. So we have to plan to make it better.
