HISTORY AND PRESENT ACTIVITIES
During a Lenten retreat in 2010 preached by Rev. Fr. Martin Kalamparambil and Rev. Fr. Antony Thekkanath, in Knanaya Community Center, Valrico (near Tampa) one of the participants, Mr. Abraham Pathiyil, a pharmacist and a devotee of Divine Mercy offered a property of 5 acres of land in Dover near Tampa, with a small house and a shed to the Marymatha Province for its ministry. After the retreat, Fr. Martin and Fr. Antony went to see the plot and informed the Provincial Superior of the offer. Following that some other priests of our community also went to see the property and they were positive about accepting the property. Meanwhile an enquiry was made in the county (district) office and it revealed that no further development in the property would be possible due to wet land restrictions.
Mr. Abraham Pathiyil himself took interest to find another suitable plot for us. When he found one, he informed us and we in turn also found it very convenient one with nine acres of land and a small house with easy access to highway and airport. In the year 2011 a deed was signed and the renovation works of the house began. In May 2012, Fr. Antony Thekkanath was appointed director of the center and on 18th June, Mar Jacob Angadiath, Bishop of the St. Thomas Diocese of Chicago blessed the center. The Centre is known as Divine Mercy Prayer house. When the renovation works were complete, the first Saturday (in Malayalam) and the third Saturday (in English) programs started. On 8th September 2014 the Provincial Superior canonically erected the Vincentian House, in Plant City, Florida, by a Decree and St. Vincent de Paul as its patron.
