HISTORY AND PRESENT ACTIVITIES
Vincentian House, Nilambur is in Malapuram District of Kerala, in the diocese of Mananthavady. The plot we bought for the house was a rubber plantation and there was a house in it. We built a new house there and it was blessed by Mar Abraham Kattumana, the Apostolic Delegate of the Syro-Malabar Church on January 21, 1995. Mar Jacob Thoomkuzhy, the Bishop of Mananthavady also participated in the blessing ceremony and offered the Holy Qurbana after the blessing. Very Rev. Fr. George Kammattil, the Provincial Superior was a concelebrant in the functions. The house was formally erected by a Decree of Provincial Superior on February 12, 1995 and Rev. Fr. Francis Kadavy was appointed its first superior. In the beginning, stay in the house was not comfortable due to the extraordinary flow of mosquitos from the government bamboo stockyard. A number of people used to come for the daily Mass. People from distant places also used to come to the house seeking advice and to order Vachnolsavam. It gradually developed into Friday prayer service. When more and more people came, the small chapel of the house was not enough to accommodate them. Construction of the separate chapel started on August 24, 1999 and it was blessed on December 21, 1999. Some of the nearby faithful come for the daily Mass and the Friday Prayer service is continued there.
