HISTORY AND PRESENT ACTIVITIES
The Vincentian Congregation is really happy about the service that De Paul Care Centre was doing to the poor cancer patients coming to the Regional Cancer Centre and Medical College, Trivandrum. The Provincial Synaxis of the Marymatha Province in 1997, while thinking about some very beneficial services to the poor, proposed to have a centre like the De Paul Care Centre, Trivandrum, for our Province. Accordingly, the then Provincial Administration purchased a piece of land, measuring 73 cents, close the Medical College, Kozhikode in July 1999. Rev. Fr. Kuriakose Aryankalayil was appointed in-charge of the construction works of the House and Care Centre. The laying of the foundation stone for the Vincentian House and the Care Centre took place on 15th April 2000. He stayed at Puthupady Ashram for sometime so that he could be at Kozhikode to facilitate the necessary initial formalities. He moved to a rented house near the Medical College when construction started and supervised all the works. Mar Paul Chittilappilly, the Bishop of Thamarassery diocese blessed the Vincentian House on 3rd September 2001. He blessed the Care Centre on 22nd February 2003. It was inaugurated in the presence of the then Major Superiors Very Rev. Fr. George Arackal, the Superior General and Very Rev. Fr. Varghese Parappuram, the Provincial Superior. There are 70 rooms and a dormitory in this Centre. The dormitory can accommodate seven people. Breakfast, lunch and supper are provided here for the patients and to their bystanders.
The centre includes a chapel where Holy Qurbana is celebrated every day. The Christian inmates and also the MBBS and the nursing students from the Medical College come for the Eucharistic celebration. There is special prayer service for the sick every evening at 7 PM. Christians as well as people of different faiths take part in this evening prayer.
