HISTORY AND PRESENT ACTIVITIES
The family of Dkhar donated a Church and the attached buildings in Lad Rymabi to the Diocese of Jowai with the intention to conduct retreats. The Archbishop Mar Thomas Menamparampil was so much interested with the retreat programs of Vincentian Fathers. He invited us to his diocese to start a retreat centre and agreed to give the church and attached buildings, which was donated by the family of Dkhar, for the very purpose for eight years of lease. Rev. Fr. Sharman, the Parish priest and his assistant Rev. Fr. Stephan Francis of Good Shpherd Lad Rymbai, and a few parishioners from the parish of Lad Rymbai supported the Archbishop to have a retreat centre in Lad Rymabi. The Marymatha Province of Vincentian Congregation has accepted the invitation of the Archbishop. The Provincial Superior, Very Rev. Fr. Paul Puthuva appointed Fr. Kuriakose Menambadath as finance officer and Asst. Director of the retreat centre. The Province requested him to make necessary modification in the church and attached buildings for the priests, who come to live there and for the public, who come to make their retreats. Fr. Kuriakose reached Lad Rymbai on 15th April 2015 from Khetri retreat centre and lived with Rev. Fr. Stephan Francis, the Parish Priest of Good Shepherd Parish, Lad Rymbai. He did the necessary modifications and has lived in the retreat centre since 29th May 2015 onwards.
31st May 2015 was a remarkable day in the history of Divine Mercy Retreat Centre. On that day the Blessing of the Divine Mercy Retreat Centre was done by Archbishop Thomas Menamparampil, Apostolic Administrator of the Diocese of Jowai. Asst. Superior General Very Rev. Fr. Mathew Vattakkuzhy inaugurated the retreat centre and Assit. Provincial, Very Rev. Fr. Francis Naduviledath, dedicated the centre in the presence of Very Rev. Fr. James Kokkandathil , provincial councilor for finance and construction.
Fr. Kuriakose Menambadth started daily Holy Mass and Saturday convention in retreat centre. Fr. Antony Kolenchery was appointed as the first Director of Divine Mercy Retreat Centre and he took charge on 15th September 2015. The Saturday convention is the main ministry of the retreat centre now. We are also going for outreach programs in the schools and parishes. Group retreats are also conducted in the retreat centre as requested. People are coming from neighboring villages daily to participate in the intercessory prayer, Divine Mercy Novena and Holy Mass. Rev. Fathers and Rev. Sisters are also visiting the centre for confession and personal prayer, especially in this Year of Mercy. For the time being, around seven hundred people are participating in the Saturday Convention. It is a good sign of the growth of the retreat centre. We are planning to start the residential retreat very soon. The prayer and all kinds of support from the Archbishop Thomas Menamprampil, the Parish Priest and the local people is admirable and it gives us much strength to do the ministry in the North East of India.
