Description

HISTORY AND PRESENT ACTIVITIES

In the 1970’s the General Administration of the Congregation made a policy decision to establish Vincentian Houses in those Syro-Malabar dioceses where the Congregation does not have any house. But it was not at all easy to execute it since some dioceses did not grant permission to start a house even when requested.

It was the desire of Rev. Fr. George Choondal who was the vicar of Choondal Parish (in 1977), to start an English Medium School in Choondal. He shared this with Rev. Fr. Hilarious Aranjaniyil VC who used to help him pastorally. Fr. Choondal promised five and a half acres of land to Vincentian Congregation for that purpose. Rev. Fr. George Kammattil, the then Superior General designated Rev. Fr. Luke Nambiaparambil to proceed further in this regard. Fr. Luke reached Choondal on 9th February1981. He stayed with Fr. George Choondal and initiated the construction works in the land offered by Fr. Choondal. In 1981 June 01 De Paul English Medium school was started. Fr. Luke shifted his residence to the Ashram when it was completed. In May 1982 Rev. Fr. Joseph Kavalakkatt took charge as the Principal of De Paul English Medium School. On 14 February 1983 Fr. Hilarious Aranjaniyil was appointed Superior of the Vincentian House. The newly constructed Ashram was blessed on 2005.
